Some amazing projects have come out of Startup Weekends around the world - Foodspotting anyone? So it’s no surprise that Toronto’s first Startup Weekend in September was full of innovative ideas. The winner of the competition was Task Ave., a location-aware reminder app built by some of my…

I posted about this on Techvibes, but it is worth re-posting here.  I love this idea as an example of a clean, simple, everyday problem that mobile can solve.  I’m still not sure why the team decided to charge $3 for the app, but it might just be to ensure that everyone can make this worth their while.  At the event, one of the ideas that was proposed as part of a future product iteration was the inclusion of “social” features.  Charging $3 makes it almost impossible to add social features immediately because it will limit usage.  Then again, the product in its current form doesn’t need social features to provide value, so maybe the $3 is a worthwhile cost for consumers.  Here’s wishing them all the best of luck, repping for Toronto!
